Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential. Losing just one tooth can significantly affect both your overall oral health and your smile’s appearance. While dentists do everything possible to avoid tooth loss, there are times when tooth extraction becomes necessary. Extraction may be required in the following situations: - Significant decay - Advanced periodontal disease - Infection or abscess - Orthodontic treatment needs - Teeth that are misaligned - Cracked teeth or roots - Teeth that are impacted After a thorough examination and treatment evaluation, your dentist may recommend extraction. X-rays will be utilized to assess the tooth's shape and position as well as the surrounding bone prior to any extraction. Depending on how complicated the extraction is, you may be referred to an oral surgeon. Some level of pain and discomfort is typical after an extraction, but this can be alleviated with pain relievers and the application of ice packs to the face for 15-minute intervals. Any discomfort should taper off within a timeframe of three days to two weeks. If you notice any prolonged or severe pain, swelling, bleeding, or fever, please contact our office without delay.
"I cannot recommend Dr. Rafaela enough.. I had extreme anxiety about going to the dentist and had such bad experiences that I avoided going for 7 years. I have really sensitive teeth which makes cleanings usually very painful for me but she was so gentle while also being very thorough. When I went back to her for fillings it was the same relaxing and enjoyable experience. I am so happy that I found her she really changed the way I feel about dental visits and now I will bring my kids for their cleanings here as well."
