Root Canal Treatments

Root canal treatment, known as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy, is a procedure aimed at preserving an infected or damaged tooth, preventing the need for extraction. This treatment becomes essential when a cavity is left untreated and progresses to the pulp area of the tooth, leading to an infection. Routine cleanings and dental checkups are vital for identifying and addressing issues at an early stage. Additionally, trauma to a tooth can inflict significant damage on its nerve. Once the nerve is compromised, the pulp can become infected, which may eventually result in bone loss surrounding the tooth (this condition is known as an abscess). Infected pulp requires prompt treatment, as it cannot heal independently and can compromise the immune system, causing pain and posing serious health risks. Signs of infected pulp can include heightened sensitivity to hot, cold, or sugary foods, pain, swelling, discomfort when biting or applying pressure, and an unpleasant taste in the mouth. However, in some cases, there may be no noticeable symptoms, making regular checkups essential for early detection. During a root canal, the infected pulp is removed, and the tooth canals are disinfected. The only alternative treatment would be extraction. After clearing the infection, the canals are filled to prevent future issues. It's common to recommend crowns post-treatment to protect and restore the tooth.

"I cannot recommend Dr. Rafaela enough.. I had extreme anxiety about going to the dentist and had such bad experiences that I avoided going for 7 years. I have really sensitive teeth which makes cleanings usually very painful for me but she was so gentle while also being very thorough. When I went back to her for fillings it was the same relaxing and enjoyable experience. I am so happy that I found her she really changed the way I feel about dental visits and now I will bring my kids for their cleanings here as well."
